Informa recently digitised the Publications Archive of the Sculptors’ Society of Ireland (SSI) which extends back to 1980 and contains some delicate material and ephemera. Their quote was very reasonable, the process was prompt, and the service was excellent from start to finish. The Informa team managed all aspects of the digitisation project with diligence and care.

The Process

  • Evaluation and Collection

     

    Evaluation of Specifications – being an extension of your team, we will get a feel for your collection and the condition the material is in and proceed to discuss the best process and possible outcome.

     

    Collection – Reliable and Secure Collections Using our own courier service. Our driver has been with us for over 8 years and understands that all collections need to handled with care.

     

    Registration and Tracking – All material is registers on our own internal managing system DIMMS. Everything is tracked into Informa on arrival and kept up to date as the job progresses.

  • The Capture Stages

     

    Pre capture – All material is evaluated and/or Physical condition is reported to our client.

     

    Capture- Informa have a multitude of high tec scanners for all different types of material depending on size and condition. We have our high tec Quartz scanner which allows us to digitize to FADGI standards (insert link to more info on this).

     

    Post Capture and Quality assurance -Images are checked for image integrity, once we are happy with this the deskewing and cropping begins.

  • Enhancements and Enrichments

     

    Metadata Compilation – Metadata synced or indexed. Metadata embedded through DC and industry standards.

     

    Transcription – Handwritten documentation transcribed and embedded for searching and data extraction.

     

    Digital Exhancements – Text Recognition and data extraction on non image based formats.

  • Publishing and Returns

     

    Publishing – Compilation of sets of data, including Archival preservation copies and working copies.

     

    Secure Delivery -Secure transfer of both digital and physical data, using Informa’s own secure courier service, all physicals will be safely returned to you.

OCR – Optical Character Recognition

OCR is a technology that allow you to complete key word searching through your PDF, it is a tool that will enable you to change the image to a text document with the content saved as text. It makes static content adjustable and eliminates the need for data to be entered manually, allowing you to edit and share efficiently.

Metadata Metadata is data about data, it provides a description and context fof the data. Metadata helps to organise, find and understand data. It is used to summarize basic information about data that can make tracking and working with specific data easier.
